Colleges - The Promise Fund

To enable college students to explore their full potential, the Foundation's Promise Fund provides for necessities not otherwise covered in financial aid packages.

College students on financial aid receive assistance for tuition, room, and board, supplemented by work opportunities and access to loans. In many instances, "extras" such as personal computers, textbooks, lab fees, musical instruments, photographic, art and other supplies, are not covered by grants. These necessities add to students' financial burden and may lead them to choose courses based not on ambition or pursuit of excellence, but on cost considerations.

The Promise Fund makes specific grants for such "extras", so that students may pursue their interests without adding to their financial burden.

Since the 2007-2008 academic year, the Fund has been in operation at Yale University and Amherst College, and has made a real difference to students' academic experience.

As the Foundation's resources grow, the program will be extended to as many colleges as possible, nation-wide.
